Is a linear web bad?
Web power users might resent a linear projection of the web, which is by essence multi-directional thanks to hypertext. On the contrary, I think it's a good way to get newbies into it and show them the depth and breadth of what's out there, in a neat way that makes them feel safe and gives them a sense of direction.

Many people I meet don't use the web because they get lost. It's our duty to reach them in adapted ways and show them the gems they ignore. Remember that "right mouse button, open link in new window" is beyond most people's knowledge of how to use a browser. Once they've been shown some good stuff, they'll start surfing on their own, but you gotta walk before you can run.
