Here's a good archive system that lets users search, access a specific day or browse an entire month. It also provides an instant glance into the posting habits of the blog owner. We immediately see that Rafe Colburn posts almost daily, except on weekends and Thanksgiving/XMas vacations.

The only thing that might be improved here is navigation at the bottom of each daily/monthly view. It points to "Really Old Stuff" while previous and next month/day might be more logical. But this system is superior to most other implementations out there. I hope Blogger and Manila get inspired and include different navigation options beside the ones they support now.
