What Have E-Consultants Wrought?

NYT:

"The danger of a dot-com displacing General Electric or Wal-Mart or Citibank is much less than it looked like it was in the days when they were being very complacent," he said. "The risk is that they'll go back into complacency."

Now experimentation and new applications are probably coming from smaller companies with less money and a humbler profile. That doesn't mean they won't be able to undermine organizations reluctant to use the Internet to improve their internal and external processes.

It will probably take longer than (unrealistically) expected at first, and it will happen behind the scenes. But the way consumers and companies work and do business is still cumbersome in so many ways that most of the Internet's potential is still ahead of us.
