"Yahoo announced a $436 million unsolicited offer for HotJobs, the online job-listing service, on Wednesday in a bid to scuttle a proposed sale of the site to market leader Monster.com. [...] Semel told analysts in a conference call that the proposed purchase fits Yahoo's new strategy of buying selected content providers, instead of only serving as the online gateway to services and content."
