This site computes its rankings based on linkage, and this example in a topic I know rather well is convincing. Still digging from that Webmaster World thread about Google. Now I understand why link: queries in Google turn so few results: they're filtered based on Pagerank (so you want to use Daypop or Alltheweb for more thorough reporting).
