Big future market opportunity: designer pets

Megnut:

"If there were a way to keep kittens from turning into cats, I’d have about a million of them. Easily."

I’m pretty sure genetics will allow the rise of designer pets, with fleeting fashion trends and a constant stream of new products. "This autumn, the pet to offer your kids is the Marine Blue Mini Giraffe. Its exclusive $8,499 price tag and its 30-inch size will make it right at home in Upper East Side apartments."
Two big trends I predict: miniature exotic animals that really behave like pets, and traditional pets that don’t grow up (e.g. kittens and puppies for life). If the thought horrifies you, remember modern dog breeds have been created by men, though the selective breeding process spanned thousands of years.
