Mapping the Geography of Domain Names
"Zook has been running a bi-annual survey of the geography of domain names since the summer of 1998. Using the billing address for the domain name registration he is able to pinpoint the location at which it is owned."
Fascinating experiment, although the billing address doesn’t necessarily point to the real owner of the domain. Some clients don’t want to bother with their domain name and have it billed to their host or web agency. So these physical addresses are sometimes intermediaries (say a ‘hot’ Silicon Alley shop hired by a Nebraska company.)
