Nick Denton, a former journalist, likes to shoot from the hip. Of course, a few years from now, everyone will wear spy eyeglasses that take digital pictures each time we blink. Who will care about file size when we’ll have Tb-sized personal hard drives and hi-bandwidth connections to even more storage? We’ll depend on good search and retrieve mechanisms (by date, "event", shape, …) to make use of so much visual memory. Expect Google to fill that need (on/off mature filter included).
